Location;
Canewdon church,situated north of southend in Canewdon essex,it has a 13-14 century church with 15th century tower and porch, there are many myths surrounding the whole area, mainly involving witches. the church is a rather large and stately church for the size of the village , canewdon itself means the hill of cana's people, this comes from king canute who camped (allegedly) on the hill of canewedon in preparation of the battle of asundon (ashingdon) in 1016, the village itself is in the domesday book. unfortunatly people seem to come here and cause damage, several windows of the church have been broken which is a crying shame , this beautiful and historiclly importent building demands more respect than it gets

Investigation


time: notes:
22:30 arrive at the site initial temperature readings taken by steve, church surface 1 degree, ground surface -2 degrees c


23:00 initial walk around with group, hindered by a group of people who turned up making noise and following us, dowsing attempted by laura to locate the grave of the old master witch of canewdon, George Pickingill, but wind caused inaccurate results .and the group who followed us may have been a distraction brendon's torch died after only tens mins of use after full charge

23:15 a temperature variation was noticed by steve (upto 2 degrees) on the north wall the temperature variation seemed to move accross the church wall, a shadow moving accross the north wall was seen by paula

23:20 paula's camera failed, drained battery, was fully charged,

23:25 after noticing a few strange things a seance was conducted, paul r, laura, mark, shani and paula took part in the seance while steve took temp readings and paul e videoed the seance paul r asked for any spirits to make themselves known to us, laura's back began to hurt ( at the base of the spine) the more we called for spirits the worse the pain got. A temperature reading was taken on Laura’s back, the top of her back was –1 degrees and the base –2. Paula was feeling very cold, shani said she felt a pressure on her shoulders, lauras back was now in alot of pain, and paula felt something near her head, steve noticed a large temp difference by paulr and paula at this time. (up to 2 degrees) lauras back was now too painful to continue, end of seance

23:35 break for 15 mins

23:50 conducted seance on the south side of the church, paul r, steve, laura, paula, shani and paul e took part in seance, brendon took temp readings and mark filmed, at first nothing was sensed, after a while paul r thought he saw a flash from within the church, and two distinct "footsteps" were heard behind shani who then felt a tingle, at first this was thought to be the 2 people filming and taking temp readings but soon realised that they were not near where the noise was heard, pw sensed there was something behind me, my right thigh felt tight at this point, the security light on the south wall of the church came on but went out after 2 seconds, this happened after the end of the seance,

00:05 Break for 20 mins, we noticed the west gate was opened,
paula and bredon left,

00:25 seance was conducted outside the west gate, a very strange noise was heard which amused us, the only explaination was a cow, but ive never heard cows here before, this noise was heard 3 times, while we were all in the west car park the security light again came on, but we were no where near it, (at least 30m away )and we werent even in the church grounds, we cant rule out that some one wasnt acctually there, lauras back again began to hurt and a light was seen behind laura,

00:45 end of canewdon investigation, the weather had caused problems, it was bitterly cold by now and was affecting peoples concentration. though there was some good results here tonight. and the cows made us laugh!! we will be coming back here to gather more infomation, maybe when weather isnt so cold.

Interesting Laura, my suggestion would be to do this sort of thing over the warmer months. Keep up the good work!

We were going to be going back this weekend just gone but it was far to cold - yes we are waiting for the warmer months - off to Wyemering Manor in Feb with ghosts-uk - really looking forward to it !!!!!
Its a location that has been on most haunted and is very well know for the ghosts !!!
