Gosh it's gone quiet here. Oh well, since no one came back screaming at me, can I recommend books by Sara Douglass. I believe she's an Austrailian author.

She has this quality about her books that just makes me want to read them. The characters and situations are all recognisable and in many cases you can see the next stupid mistake being set up at least 3 pages before it happens. But, dammit, you have to keep reading.

Give her stuff a try and let me know what you think.

can you recommend one of her books to get started on please?

dont want to read a naff one first!! laugh.gif

I've not found any 'naff' ones yet. Although I have found some of the situations somewhat uncomfortable. Try the following (In order)
BATTLE AXE
ENCHANTER
STARMAN
and
SINNER
PILGRIM
CRUSADER

There's also an alterative historic series coming out, set in the 14th C where one monk/ex knight fights against the demons of change (The Angels seem bigger b*st*rds than the demons). But I can't remember the name of the first.

Enjoy
