Full Version: The new cut of Alien
Sci-Fi Spectrum > Films > Sci Fi Films

There is a new 9 disc boxset of the Alien films coming out just before Xmas. Aside from the many other nice stuff that is supposed to be on it is a new cut of the origanal Alien film. This puts back in the scene where Ripley finds that the crew have been cocooned by the alien. This now contradicts the events in the sequels. As this is to be released in the cinema too won't it spoil the films as a whole? Should it have been left alone?
Jethro
Have this one down for Santa to deliver :thumb:

Not sure if the cocoon scene (actually saw that bit somewhere) does disturb the flow to the next films as none of the characters aboard the Nostrodamus (?) survived.

Will it include the extra scenes from Aliens as well :dunno:

On related news Aliens vs Preditors is in production (dumb name but if it follows the book should be a good movie) thumbup1.gif

Yes the extended cut of Aliens is there but thats been the only version available on DVD here anyway so they have included the original shorter cinema cut for the first time(?) as well. Alien 3 has an extra 35 mins or so restored and there is a documentory on NZ director Vincent Wards vision for the movie before he got kicked, it involved a wooden spaceship apparantly, with monks. Might have been better! Alien 4 has alternative ending where they land on a barren Earth. Will not get this yet as there is so much to buy!!!!
Alien V Predator might be good, there have been better scripts though, I liked the one where humans land on a planet where the Predators have been breeding aliens for sport. I think that might have been used in a graphic novel. This new film is set in the Arctic I think...........

Well I treated myself to the box set. Have just watched Alien Resurection and was interested to see that it was actually written by Joss Wheden of Buffy and Angel fame. He also wrote the short lived series Firefly. Now the ragbag crew of smugglers in Alien 4 bare a remarkable similarity to the crew in Firefly. I think that Joss went back to his old idea and fleshed it out for the series.
Resurection wasn't as bad as I remember it being, more of a comic book take on the Alien franchise. Could have been worse!
The extended version of Alien 3 was excellent I thought. Improved the film a lot.

Eckie,

May I ask how much that set you back? biggrin.gif Was it worth the price do you think?

I liked the first Alien Film in particular...........but seem to remember falling asleep in Alien 3 in the cinema. wacko.gif

Well Doc, its £55 in WH Smiths but I had gift tokens for Xmas which brought it down a bit thumbup1.gif Yes it is worth it with 2 versions of all 4 films and a disc of docs for each movie plus an extra disc giving a grand total of 9 discs! If you love the films then you can't go wrong.

9 Discs for 55 Quid is pretty good. biggrin.gif

My next box set will have to be the Back To The Future Trilogy set on DVD. wub.gif

Call me odd if you like (but not to my face) but my fav Back to the Future movie was the second one. I'm a sucker for time travel stories and this is one of the best.

Yes, agreed it was great. I think I'm equal on no. 1 and 2.

3 was a little dissapointing in places, esp. that train scene right at the end. biggrin.gif
Eckie
No 3 was filmed at the same time as no2. It seems to me that the makers decided to have a third one filmed whilst they had everybody in the same place rather than a great idea for a movie.

Well you lot are well catered for, the only version l can find locally is the 4 DVD set... (which l didn't get for xmas btw)....
