....with the naked eye?

I have just finished reading a book, a crime thingy, and the person said they liked to sit on the hill watching the satillites orbit

now I have been looking skywards since reading that, and I think I saw something moving slowly but I dont know if it was anything or nothing

do you think you can see orbiting stuff with the naked eye? have you ever seen anything?
Eckie
Its right Dax, if you watch a clear night sky for more then a minute you will see a steady single light move across the sky. Once you see one-you'll see them all the time. One thing that puzzled me until recently was that some seemed to just fade out as I watched. I thought 'hello, they're here!'
Apparantly they sometimes move into the Earth's shadow and are blocked off from the sun's light which is over the horizon.
Go on Dax, look now.......... unless you're reading this in daylight of course! tongue.gif

thanks Eckie smile.gif so my eyes were not just playing up then! laugh.gif cool.gif I will have to wait for a nice clear night, hopefully with not too much light pollution

I went out into the garden last night and turned the outside light off and watched smile.gif I do believe I saw one biggrin.gif moving slowly acroos the sky, I started out using a tree as a reference point and as I watched it move I worked out which was the closest star to it and then watched it slowly move by that one too

it was good but damn cold!! laugh.gif
Eckie
From what I've seen over the years, they appear to move almost as fast as a plane would high in the sky, about half an inch a second or so if you were to hold a ruler at arms length.
