I've just watched this movie tonight on a dvd borrowed from a friend, obviously its not out in the UK yet but this is what I thought.........
Not a bad film actually, I was expecting the worse after reading some US reviews.
I won't go into the plot as you can find that anywhere.
Lance Henrickson returns (he played the android in Aliens) as the owner of Weyland, a company that features in the original films and the inventor of the android, hence it looks like him!
The film is a prequel, set in 2004.
The Aliens and Predators look and act as they should, the effects are quite good, impressive at times. One niggle is that the alien seems to gestate from egg to fully grown much quicker in this film than we been shown before.
The Alien queen is better done than in Alens imo, more like a T Rex when she's unleashed. There are some great tense scenes from time to time but that pace is not kept up throughout.
I would say that AvP is better than Predator 2 and Alien Resurection. Imagine Alien 3 but with a more simplified plot and added Predators.
so its the two stories mixed? like freddy v Jason?
sounds an interesting idea

Its kind of, but not naff or fanboyish as Freddy v Jason. Its all done seriously. Humans find pyramid buried under ice, go investigate, Predators come back after 100 years as its the place where they breed the alien creatures to hunt for sport. Chaos insues.
Ooooooer!
sounds quite good,(unlike freddy and Jason!) and its not out in the UK yet?? so how come your mate had it then Eckie??Eh??

do you know when it might be out here?

Sounds interesting Eckie - I'll report back when I've seen this!
Kind of like a 'hybrid' film by the sound of it!

Yes, its worth seeing. Apparantly Dax, some people have been downloading these things off the webnet and writing them to blank dvds! Or so I'm told. One was lent to me so I had to watch it. I think its out in a week or so in the cinemas.

Mmmmm, the title put me off but now I've read what's been said here. I'll definitely make a beeline for it when it comes out over here.
I liked most of the Alien films and the Predator ones were pretty good, I just couldn't imagine them in the same place.

In Canada they actually add on a tax to blank discs to cover "earnings lost through piracy".
AVP was toned down for the R13 rating in the US. A directors cut is expected to contain a lot of deleted scenes, (well an Alien movie without a chest bursting scene is just not right).

I'm trying to remember now if there was a chest bursting scene............ I think there were a few but they were not graphic in any sense........... certainly nowhere near as bloody as John Hurt's birthing scene.
