the same geezer who wrote jurassic park.

I havent actaully finished this book yet but I am enjoying it so much I wanted to share that joy with you! biggrin.gif
so please please do not tell me how it ends yet!! laugh.gif

it starts with an old man dressed as a monk wandering around the dessert in USA, he then dies and shows signs of frost bite, which is a bit weird as he was found in a dessert!
then we cut across to france where a uni proffessor chap is digging up an old monastery....the professor goes misssing after having to take a trip back to the states and with ina few days his students at the dig finda note from him, buried in with the relics....saying HELP ME, the note is carbon dated and yes it is medievil! ohmy.gif

so they all fly to the states where they are showed an experiment.....a time machine!

they have to find him and bring him back in a certain time frame, of course if it can go wrong it does...........what will happen??

I will have to finish the book to find out!!! biggrin.gif

it is a very good read though thumbup1.gif

I love his books but I found this one to be one of his weakest although saying that I did enjoy it at the time.
Don't see the film Dax, its truely dull. Its just a boring costume drama.
Dax
funny you have reopened this thread as I eventually finished this book last night, I have only been reading it at work and on the bus etc!

I thought it was good, and the pieces were quite neatly tidied up, I did think that the second from last angle/twist was a bit lame, when the owner of the company got pushed into a machine, ummm, not a very nice thing to do, sending him off to die of the black death biggrin.gif

I didnt know it had been made into a film, so thanks for the pre warning! biggrin.gif
so often books/stories are ruined by being turned into films sad.gif
Eckie
So true, the film features very fogettable actors and Billy Connelly as the old guy that goes missing in time! 'Load of pooooo' as he might say biggrin.gif
The film also ignores most of the interesting science bits. If you like Crichtons books you might like 'Blood Music' by Greg Bear.
Its about a guy who injects experimental intelligent nanobots (tiny robots) into himself and they spread....... its hard going in a couple of places but its quite scary as to what happens.
Ogre
Blood Music ? Now that's one disturbing ending......eeewww.

As for Timelines, we enjoyed the filum. No Brainer tis true, but I still have to wipe away the odd tear at the cry of 'Trebuchet my Lord ? Trebuchet.' Ah, the things that can make an old man laugh biggrin.gif

Incidentally if anyone needs any seige engines for home use, drop a pm to Morbius who I'm sure can provide a range of items to excite and delight.

Back on the topic of Temporal Displacement, did anyone here see Frequency when it came out ?

hehehe, theres something I really dont think I will be trying at home! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
thanks for the links and the book ideas thumbup1.gif

I enjoyed Frequency despite Dennis thingy being in it. I love time travel films and books. In fact I bought HG Wells Time Machine today for a pound at Hay-on-Wye
Ogre
As has been observed elsewhere. Picking up a time machine for a quid is not the hard part. Now, if you can find a drapers opposite your lab, willing to keep the same dummy in the window for a century or so, your getting somewhere. Have fun and watch out for Angry Mobs, Dinosaurs and Alpha Centaurians. tongue.gif

Funnily enough the drapers across the road seem to have been there forever! No sign of Morlocks yet unless you count that family up the road.
I enjoyed The Time Ships sequel by Stephen Baxter. Now that gets very strange.
