Full Version: what makes a programme cultish?
Sci-Fi Spectrum > Cult Series > Cult Stuff
Dax
we have talked about quite a few tv series' and films and books here.

but when does it go from being main stream to a cult?

I was thinking have I posted about monkey in the right place?
its a tv series but would it also come under cult?

its a confusing world of sci-fi with different definitions, and little compartments for things.

so is fanasty cult also? or just fantasy? huh.gif

what are your views on sci-cults (not the moonies!) and do you understand the borders of labelling any clearer than me!! laugh.gif

I think a program is thought of as 'cult' when it isn't expected to do very well but slowly gathers a lot of fans. But saying this you could say that it happened to X-Files, it wasn't a big prog, people got into but then it became mainstream so was no longer a cult.
The opposite has happend to Dr Who, it was mainstream for many years but now its been off air for a long time, most people under 25 are not aware of it so now its a cult prog.
Hope that made some sense.............

Sometimes a prog is so bad that it's good laugh.gif Mentioning no names but they usually become 'cults'.
