Got this ROC Science Fiction out of the Library last week. A David Garnett paperback, the blurb on the back looked quite interesting.

"If Edmond Hamilton and Benny Hill had collaborated on a script for Futurama, the result might have been half as funny as Bikini Planet.

Sorry, if Tolstoy and Terry (Yawn) Brooks had collaborated on a 4 hour report on the history of NHS dental fillings it would have been a damn site more entertaining (and probably funnier) than Bikini Planet.

It starts off with promise. Organised Crime/Cryogenics/Right Man in wrong place. But seems to lose itself somewhere around page 3. I found myself reading it with a dreadful fascination as it just got worse and worse.

Do yourselves a favour and avoid this like the plague. The author (perpetrator ?) even found it necessary to include not 2 but 3 alternate endings for the reader to choose. If Arriva Trains usual abysmal service had been a tad better, I'd never have finished it myself.

It sounds as if the best thing about the book is the title! It amazes me the amount of literary crap that can get published and yet, I have the feeling that there are a lot of struggling authors out there who a have great books stuffed into the back of the wardrobe.
As they say......... its who you know wink.gif
