I joined Tesco's online DVD hire facility last night. Mainly because I'm fed up with my local hire facilities 'don't care' attitude to the state they send out their films. (finger prints, dirty, films crashing all the time..

Before my 2 week trial expires I'd be interested to find out if anyone here has experience of such facilities.

If you think their good or not, let me know.

I haven't used online dvd hire myself, I would like to try but I'm unsure. From what I've read on 'other' boards, some smaller companies give you all the films at the top of your list with a quick turnaround in the free trial but then things slow down when you actually start paying. Now I'm sure big companies such as the one you are with will not do this so I'd be interested in hearing your experiences.
I agree with you on the state of rented dvds. I'm amazed that they play at all sometimes. I should get a discount because I clean them up before putting them in my shiny clean dvd player!
I can't understand how they become so scratched, marked and stained. All you have to do is remove the dvd from its case, put it in the player, watch movie, remove disc and put it back into the case........
I think some people use them as frisbees for their dogs or mini skateboards for their kids. Do the same people hire cars and then put them in stock car races?
I would fine them if it was my shop and someone returned a dvd with scratches mad.gif

We've recently started the Tesco online rental thingy and wish we had done it before. After spending a small fortune at Blockbusters on a regular basis, then watching them increase their prices by 20 pence per DVD, I REALLY had enough.

All the DVD's we have received have been in good condition - and the DVD's have included latest releases as well as older series that we wanted to rewatch.

One of the exciting things about this type of service os being able to rent series such as Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica (new version), 4400, etc, etc. without having to pay for sets of DVD's that we would not be able to afford at the moment.

We have learned a couple of things though - when reserving or favouriing entire series of programs e.g. DS9 seasons 1, 2 and 3, only favourite the current and next season that you want, i.e. Season 1 and 2. If you favourite seasons 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 then you may end up getting Saeason 5 when you are waiting for Season 3.

The other thing is, send back a watched DVD as soon as you can. Don't wait until you've watched the others. By returning films like this, you'll keep a constant flow of DVD's Bst

Well, so far I'm impressed. If it carries on like this we'll have no problems. Ordered Monday evening, films arrived in mail yesterday. So spent last night watching (don't laugh) Sponge Bob Square Pants the movie... Only for Clancy 'Kurgan' Brown of course. Tonite it's Tremors 4.

They have a weird selection though. I can get Blazing Saddles, but not Haunted Honeymoon. The Guyver live action but not The Guyver anime. (but as saving grace they had The Overfiend).

At the moment its 10% off your first 3 months with 14 days free trial. I'm getting a DVD almost every night and paying no more a week than I did just renting one on a Saturday night..

Give it a try !
