Full Version: Japan do 'The Core'

I was reading the Guardian on-line this afternoon (sorry, my job IS mind numbling boring) and 't would seem Japan are aiming to be the first nation to drill through to the Earths mantle.

The drilling rig is going to be the length of 25 Empire state buildings blah blah yadda yadda. Looking for bacteria yakkety schmakety.

The bit that did make me sit up and go 'oooooer' was he fact that part of their research is going to be into earthquakes. To do this their going to be sailing to part of the Pacific where the crust is thinnest.

I suspect this is going to put them drilling right into the Ring of Fire itself.

Ah well, I have two years to complete my preperations before it all goes KABLOOIE !! blowup.gif

Hmmm, how is it that normal people everywhere can read an article like that and go 'Uh oh! NO WAY. BAAAAAD idea!" but a bunch of braniacs get together and come up with a daft idea that just so happens to affect every life form on this planet? blink.gif

Doh!

It might not be so bad if every life form on the planet got fed up of being here, ALL relocated to another planet, preferably in another Solar System, then.... from a VERY safe distance.... watch these idiots try their little home experiment and watch them blow themselves to smithereens from several light years away.

It's just a thought. rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

maybe there was a geek conventiona nd they all got pi**ed and one of them said, "I know what we can do for a laugh....lets drill into the rearths core and see what happens"
and one says "I bet that the molton lava will come out",
and the other one says "bet its doesnt"
and then first says "you are on mate"
hands are shaken the deal is done, so now they cant back down as they are both too proud! laugh.gif

bloody idiots!!!
Morbius
Or they might just accidentally release some sort of prehistoric monster from an undersea lair/prison, which would then ravage downtown Tokyo.

So what size Trebuchet do you recommend to get rid of Godzilla my learned friend ? And what would the payload be ? My vote is a mixed load of Fluffy King Kongs and Tamagotchie... biggrin.gif

Ogre

Ooohh ooohh, er ! We supporters of Papa Cthulu of course welcome his return hope he had a good sleep, and are looking forward to helping rule the 'flocks' thumbup1.gif
Morbius
Well - dry.gif one capable of lobbing a couple of explode on contact mines or a train carriage or two, should be big enough to at least inconvenience your averaged sized prehistoric beasty.
Ogre
I like the train carriage idea. Surreal enough to make me ponder huh.gif How about Pyecrete carriages filled with black powder, but weakened at one end to channel the blast ? Or add Alum to the charge and dry that beastie out (sorry, cross reference to Tom & Jerry plus those sponge monsters that swell to an amazing twice their size when soaked in water - I must cut back on the coffee)

Yikes, that's one diamond tipped drill bit! ohmy.gif

Seriously though even if they do drill to the core of the earth, nothing really is going to happen to the planet - surely unsure.gif
It couldnt knock us off our gravitational pattern with the sun or anything or could it? unsure.gif
Could it prevent volcanoes/ earthquakes elsewhere?

What worries me is the area they seem to be interested in drilling into is on the Pacific tectonic plate . This includes a range of 'dormant' volcanoes that run down the West side of the USA, across the North of Auz, back up the East side of Asia and back across to Alaska.

The Native American prophecy of 'The Day of Cleansing' seems to relate to an event in this area, with 10 'seers' all coming in with the same sort of map for the USA wthin 15 - 20 years (It's what set me on the 'Survivalism Path').

But..... That's humans for you.
