Princess Leias Mother and sister have an unusual resident in the flat she lives in. It's an old building converted into flats and since moving in a few years ago they have had a series of events that have been pretty harmless things but now she's getting a bit worried.
Before I tell you any of this, let me just say that PLs Mom is not a believer in spirits. She prefers cold, hard facts and scientific explanations for most things but for some reason she has had more paranormal experiences than anyone else I know.
She usually goes into denial and then goes through a long period of thinking up every conceivable practical reason something has happened (which is sometimes physically impossible actually) or even condsiders she is going mad rather than believe in spirits. It's only the fact that PLs sister also experiences all the same things (sometimes right in front of their eyes) that she has to confront the fact that something is really going on.Anyhow, back to her situation. They have an elderly lady resident spirit who they call Ethel. Ethel started out by just making her presence known (perfume smells, odours, appearing briefly). She then started moving things around - slippers would be moved, clothes put by the bed would move to the other side of the room, objects would be put in different places, etc at all times of day and night. Luckily they thought this was very funny and when they asked her to stop, she did for a little while although she did start again.
The next thing was while they were watching specific programmes on TV, the channel would change constantly (as if Ethel didn't like the programme and was forcing them to switch over). It was always Coronation Street actually and any programme related to the pop band that PLs sister is a huge fan of. The dogs would go nuts at the same time too. That became a real nuisance and it could be said there was a fault with the TV, however, the next thing kind of blew that theory out of the water. They started recording the programme so they could get around the problem but the channels would also change on the video recorder while it was recording.
This is not possible! Has anyone ever tried to change the channel on a video recorder with the 'record' button or feature switched on? Especially when the video is left in an empty room with no remote control near it. It can't be done without stopping it first, changing the channel then pressing record again. On their video it just changes channel away from the original programme and then occasionally flits back and forth to the other stations (as if someone is channel hopping). They tried different TV's and videos but the same thing would happen. They've given up watching TV now. 
Next thing is the computer. They wondered if the computer had a technical problem but I've never seen one specific like this. The mouse pointer would move very deliberately on screen and then click on specific buttons (like the send button while typing an email). This would happen without the mouse being physically moved or touched and would happen right in front of their eyes! Ethel seemed to get bored with this so has stopped after a while although we all suspect that she is still tampering with the computer somehow as it behaves very 'oddly' sometimes - I have used computers for over 25 years so when I say 'odd', I mean completely wierd.
Anyway, the latest thing has freaked them out. PLs Mom has always been VERY security conscious. Every night she turns off all the electric sockets, closes all windows and curtains, turns off all lights, TV, etc (complete shutdown), locks all doors and closes all internal doors. Being in a flat she has to pass the living room to get to the bedroom and it's also the main room she has to check every night. Yesterday they got up to find that the living room door was open, lights and electric on, the TV was on (sound up as well), the dogs were going completely frantic, curtains were open BUT all the external windows and doors were still secured with no signs of tampering!
At first she thought someone had broken in but after checking everything she is at a loss for an explanation.They are fed up now. Can anyone recommend something to get rid of Ethel as she is getting worse and becoming disruptive. Ethel seems to be tampering with more and more electrical items and PLs Mom is naturally worried that she'll move onto something that could be a danger to them.
They have tried talking to her and it used to work but not now. We have considered it's not Ethel doing this now - it could be someone else. Asking them to stop has gotten nowhere now. We have recommended she call a priest to bless the house.

She Who Must Be Obeyed used to control things by standing in the middle of the living room and blowing her top. Quite an experience to find her giving the empty (?) air the benefit of her temper. A lecture along the lines of 'we all have to exist here, if you can't behave your out !!!'...
