Yip Signs has become one of my fave films. I just love the atmosphere in it and it is one of the few films that makes me feel nervous. I like Sixth Sense and Unbreakable too, all made by the same guy.

I did enjoy this film, even after several people had told me they thoguht it was a bit of an anti climax watching it after all the hype in the press over it, as with all films thses days.
I was not expecting it to turn out how it did, and really did enjoy all of it, the story and the tension, tha fact you did not see "anything" until the end was great!

I didn't enjoy Signs at all

and I thought Unbreakable was a real let down

- The Sixth Sense did make up for both of them though

. I noticed that you can now get a boxed set of these three M Night Sh???man (

) films!

I liked Sixth sense!!....the first time!!........but the thing is, once you've seen it twice (lol...you have to see it twice to see if you can spot any bits that give the ending away that you missed the 1st time!!.....like the fact that he's always wearing the same clothes!!!) it seems to get boring after that!!!
I didn't even bother with Unbreakable!!!

Liked Signs a lot. A movie where guns didn't resolve the situation. Actually put me in mind of Dawn of the Dead in how they related global events via TV.
Other great movies recently,
The Others ... so Kidman can act, rewatch to get how well she does it.
The Ring (US version) needed a change of grundies during that one

Jethro, I agree that Signs was possibly a more powerful movie for not concentrating on the world wide invasion. Dawn of the Dead is one of the best films ever made. I love it

Snip from a review l did for it on another site....
QUOTE
Graham Hess (Gibson) is living with his family on an isolated corn farm. Hess is coming to terms with the death of his wife, and the loss of his religon due to this. The film opens with Hess waking up suddenly and having some sort of premonition that his daughter (Breslin) is not in her bedroom. Screams lead Hess and his brother Merrill (Phoenix) into the corn fields where they find both the kids and something unexpected. Crop circles.
The movie then moves through a gradual realisation that the planet is about to be invaded by non friendly aliens, close encounters with Aliens, and the realisation that the crop circles are some sort of landing instruction. A night spent under seige in the basement of the farm house leds to the climax of the movie, with Hess facing his own fears and obsessions.
First up, the hard core horror fraternity are no doubt wondering why we are covering a Sci Fi movie. Well take away the alien landings folks and we have your standard "there's something in the corn and it's coming towards us" horror scenerio.
The basic premise of the movie is that signs and portants are all interlocked. What is not apparent becomes apparent if you can recognise the connections, and how to make them work for you. Any comparison to Jesus's 90 days in the wilderness and questioning of his fate is justified. This movie is geared towards Hess's days in the wilderness, and trial by tribulation. By movie's end, the final confrontation with the Alien is less important (note the male support actor dealing with it almost off screen), than Hess's own coming to terms with his faith.

Oh dear, your going to love me for this.
SPOILERS
Signs was. . . . . . dumb, dumb, dumb dumb duuummmb !!!
What kind of interstellar invader comes all the way to a planet where
a. It already has a 'semi' sentient population.
b. The greater of it made of a deadly corrosive acid.
c. The invaders get to wander about unprotected.
I hope the invasion planners were given a damn good kicking when they got home.
This was almost as bad as the solution to Reign of Fire (which I'm not allowed to watch with my family anymore, for pointing out the basic holes in the makers understanding of Reptile Biology - They can be sexualy bi-morphic dammit. Killing the one male doesnt cause all the girls to faint away........)

'Signs' was a pretty good 'atmospheric' film..
I never look for reality in films, you could pick holes in virtually every film made. I just
watch 'em for the entertainment value, never anything deeper.

I have to aggree with you there Vanner. Even the Godfather has its holes. Its thought of as one of the best films ever made but who can beleive that a fat man with cottonwool in his mouth who when he talks no one can understand be the head of a powerful mafia clan. And that horses head, you'd think there would be a mess of blood in that room.
Back to Signs........ the point of the film was not in the detail. If that was the case then you could argue that the aliens knew that Earth was two thirds water but that was not the problem, perhaps it was the flouride in the water that killed them.

Errr !!
With:
Lime
Orthophosphate
Ferric Sulphate
Carbon
Sodium Hypochlorite (Or sometimes Chlorine Gas)
And a few others I can't remember here and now, all already in the water,
I don't think a little 'Flouride' would bother them much !!

You would have to write it in corn fields to give them a clue then!

I thought the Aliens were more scavengers then an invasion force. Either that or an advanced raiding party. Apart from all the plot holes I thought it had great atmosphere. The only thing that was lost on me was the footage of the south american kids party, as I thought it was suposed to be a hoax as there is so much UFO/supernatural hoaxing actually happening there. Didn't suspend my disbelief enough i guess.
