As this section of the site is looking somewhat empty, I thought I’d post some interesting authors with perhaps a different slant on what you might expect from a Fantasy Novel.

First up is Gary Kilworth. Here’s a writer who isn’t stopped by genres. Children’s Books, Young Teens, Historical War, some damn fine Fantasy. I’m waiting for the first Kilworth ‘Bodice Ripper’ to hit the shops. Although……. Anyway, here are some of his tomes worth looking at.

The House of Tribes: A Hedge mouse goes on a quest to the legendary ‘House’ and the perils he has to survive. The actual journey isn’t to bad, but it’s inside the house that it gets interesting. Dogs, cat, rat, owl, sadistic humans, cannibal mice and that’s in addition to a plethora of insane mice (berserkers, acrobats, drunkards, scholars, mystics and ninjas). This is the struggle to rid the house of the parasitic humans and what happened next.

A Midsummer’s Nightmare: The Fairies of rapidly depleting Sherwood Forest have to make their way to the safety of the New Forest. This is the story of their journey with the aid of Sid a spell struck mechanic and an aged bus. Along the way there’s in-fighting kidnappings, new age travellers, attempted murder, police raids, robbery, age-old terrors and love. A nice book, but I have to restrict my self to reading it at six monthly intervals.

Shadow Hawk: A more ‘adult’ book, set around the rain forests of Indonesia. An English naval captain ends up the new ruler of a corrupt kingdom. Aided by his sister it’s a tale of revenge, peril and old magic.

I’m not saying go out now and get the hardbacks (if you can) but their certainly worth picking up if you see them on sale.
