AFTER massive global outcry, Singapore's censors have reversed their decision to ban the blockbuster video game Mass Effect for a lesbian alien love scene.

The Media Development Authority (MDA) originally banned the game because of a scene in which two female characters kiss.

On Friday night they announced that Mass Effect, a hugely anticipated Microsoft blockbuster, would be released with an M18 rating, for over 18's only

Other games with stronger sexual content and same-sex scenes had already been released in the city-state without incident because Singapore did not have a formalised games ratings system.

Mass Effect is the first video game to be given a rating in the country. It effectively fast tracks a new ratings system that was due to come into effect in January.

The British Board of Film Classification described the single controversial sex scene as, "brief and undetailed," and the Australian Classifications Board has classified the game MA15+.

Along with the ratings backflip, Singapore's MDA also announced that they would use the new games ratings system selectively until January to enable the immediate release of blockbuster games.
