I personally feel that the goverment use(d) this area for top secret things like the stealth fighter plane. The alien conspiracy that is surrounded by area 51 is probably due to sightings such as the stealth and because it was such new technology and unheard of people put it down to aliens.

I think it would be a bit arrogant of the human race to think it is the only intelligent species in the universe. (Although sometimes 'intelligence' and 'human' don't seem to go together )

As Shadow says, it is probably an area where they are developing and testing top secret planes. The public don't get to see them until they're announced, around ten years after they've been developed.

If there have been alien visitations I suppose America would be a good place to go, there's still an awful lot of wilderness there and they do seem to be the most technologically developed nation. (Maybe the aliens gave them that technology )

I think I'll keep a guardedly open mind
